Satin and lace are particularly fragile fabrics, and they need a little extra TLC! Before you dive into caring for you lingerie, don’t forget something so simple! Read the label and make sure you’ve checked exactly what the washing instructions are for each item, they may have specific recommendations such as hand washing only or cold water wash, following these will make sure to maintain the fabric quality and prevent damage. Almost all of our Playful pieces are hand wash only, but always double check.

The clue is in the name… but the best way to wash a bra is…

1. Separate whites, blacks, dark and light colours for each wash.
2. Fill your sink or a big bowl with lukewarm water.
3. Let your lingerie soak for a little while. 
4. Add your cleaning products, you can buy specific lingerie wash or just using a gentle lingerie wash or mild detergent will do the job. 
5. Let it soak for another 5 to 10 minutes, gently swish them around. 
6. Rinse with clean lukewarm water. 
7. Avoid wringing or twisting the garments to dry; Instead, press out the excess water using a towel. 

The best way to avoid colour bleeding and prevent damage is to separate your lingerie according to colours and fabrics before washing. Dark or vibrant coloured pieces should be washed separately from lighter or white lingerie. Additionally, separate lace, delicate mesh and silk items from sturdier fabrics like cotton. This will ensure that the fabrics do not rub against each other, causing snags or tears. 

Always try to opt for a gentle detergent specifically designed for the delicate fabrics. Harsh detergents and bleach can damage the fibres and cause discolouration. For extra care, look for mild, pH- neutral options that are free from optical brighteners and bleach. 

Accidents can happen! Your lingerie may encounter stains over time. Whether its makeup, oil or perspiration, it’s essential to address stains promptly. Treat stains before washing by applying a small amount of stain remover or mild soap directly to the affected area. Gently rub the fabric together or use a finger to work the stain remover into the fabric. Rinse thoroughly and wash as usual.

Avoid using the dryer or radiator to dry your lingerie as the heat and tumbling action can damage delicate fabrics and stretch out elastic. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water after washing using a towel, lay flat or hang to air dry. Shape the garments and smooth out any wrinkles. Avoid direct sunlight as it may fade colours over time.

Proper storage is essential to maintain the shape and condition of your lingerie! Consider dedicating a separate drawer or section in your wardrobe to store your delicate pieces. If you are short on space, use individual fabric or mesh bags to protect each lingerie item. This will prevent snagging or tangling with other garments. Remember to fold bras with the cups facing upwards to maintain their shape.

To extend the lifespan of your favourite lingerie, it’s beneficial to rotate your collection, as wearing the same pieces day after day can lead to faster wear and tear. By giving each set of lingerie a break and alternating between them, you allow the fabrics to recover and maintain their elasticity.
